{"id":5554,"date":"2021-06-25T15:29:12","date_gmt":"2021-06-25T15:29:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/prichard-backup.com\/July\/2021\/06\/25\/as-fafsa-applications-lag-cpe-approves-college-tuition-costs-set-by-public-universities\/"},"modified":"2022-09-27T19:50:03","modified_gmt":"2022-09-27T19:50:03","slug":"as-fafsa-applications-lag-cpe-approves-college-tuition-costs-set-by-public-universities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/prichard-backup.com\/July\/as-fafsa-applications-lag-cpe-approves-college-tuition-costs-set-by-public-universities\/","title":{"rendered":"As FAFSA applications lag, CPE approves college tuition costs set by public universities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text animation=&#8221;fadeInRight&#8221;]The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) this week <a href=\"https:\/\/public.onboardmeetings.com\/Meeting\/3Mw1%2FTKEhkSOghYM7xq%2FQy%2FIjTMiFZQJcVvMgfL9UVMA\/u4crHHKIYhl59D7a0r%2F6ih9RvG%2FTpYEyFc4TpSRzXRUA\">approved campus tuition and fee rates<\/a> for public colleges and universities for the upcoming 2022 school year.\u00a0 All of Kentucky\u2019s postsecondary institutions stayed under the tuition caps adopted by CPE:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No more than 3.0 percent over two years, and a maximum increase of no more than 2.0 percent in any one year, for public research and comprehensive universities.<\/li>\n<li>No more than $5.00 per credit hour over two years, and a maximum increase of no more than $3.00 per credit hour in any one year, for students attending the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text animation=&#8221;slideInLeft&#8221;]Table 1 summarizes the current base tuition and fee rates, those adopted for the upcoming year, and the amount of increase.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; image=&#8221;15053&#8243; animation=&#8221;slideInUp&#8221;][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text animation=&#8221;slideInLeft&#8221;]Overall, the tuition and fee increases appear modest based on <a href=\"http:\/\/cpe.ky.gov\/aboutus\/records\/finance_committee\/agenda-2021-05-11-fc.pdf\">historical average annual increases<\/a> (Table 2).\u00a0 Even with the <a href=\"https:\/\/prichard-backup.com\/July\/american-rescue-plan\/\">substantial funds provided<\/a> to postsecondary education through several rounds of federal relief, there are continued challenges faced by students and campuses due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text animation=&#8221;slideInLeft&#8221;]Even small tuition increases are sure to impact many students, <a href=\"https:\/\/prichard-backup.com\/July\/kentuckys-fafsa-completion-rate-is-lagging-prior-year\/\">underscoring the need for students and families<\/a> to fill out the FAFSA \u2013 the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.\u00a0 The FAFSA is the gateway to financial aid for most students pursuing postsecondary education.
