{"id":5484,"date":"2021-03-24T16:31:54","date_gmt":"2021-03-24T16:31:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/prichard-backup.com\/July\/2021\/03\/24\/wku-public-relations-students-create-campaign-to-promote-free-mental-health-services\/"},"modified":"2022-09-27T19:49:50","modified_gmt":"2022-09-27T19:49:50","slug":"wku-public-relations-students-create-campaign-to-promote-free-mental-health-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/prichard-backup.com\/July\/wku-public-relations-students-create-campaign-to-promote-free-mental-health-services\/","title":{"rendered":"WKU Public Relations students create campaign to promote free mental health services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row overlap=&#8221;top&#8221; overlap_distance=&#8221;30px&#8221;][vc_column][vc_column_text animation=&#8221;slideInDown&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><i>By AARON MUDD | Courtesy of the Bowling Green Daily News<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text animation=&#8221;slideInLeft&#8221;]The coronavirus put a new spotlight on Western Kentucky University\u2019s Counseling Center, but its services and staff will likely be vital long after the pandemic\u2019s eventual conclusion.\u00a0That\u2019s the message of the \u201cWelcome in, Let\u2019s Talk About It\u201d campaign designed by a group of five public relations students aimed at reminding students that the center\u2019s services are still available remotely.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text animation=&#8221;slideInLeft&#8221; animation_delay=&#8221;.2&#8243;]WKU students can now get help with stress management, forming healthy relationships and much more via virtual sessions from the privacy of a student\u2019s home \u2013 completely free.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text animation=&#8221;slideInLeft&#8221; animation_delay=&#8221;.4&#8243;]The WKU Counseling Center has dropped its initial $20 fee for services.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text animation=&#8221;slideInLeft&#8221; animation_delay=&#8221;.6&#8243;]\u201cA lot of people have really struggled with this,\u201d said Allie Cornwell, part of a group of WKU seniors working to promote the center\u2019s services amid the pandemic.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text animation=&#8221;slideInLeft&#8221;]Cornwell said the campaign aims to make \u201cmore students aware that they are not alone in their mental health struggles, and that the center wants to help them.\u201d[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text animation=&#8221;slideInLeft&#8221;]The group of students includes Cornwell, Mary Murphy, Sydney Jones, MaryCarol Kuhn and Bailey Percifield.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text animation=&#8221;slideInLeft&#8221;]As part of the initiative, the group has taken over management of the center\u2019s Instagram account by curating posts and organizing live-streamed sessions with Associate Director Dr. Karl Laves, who\u2019s answered students\u2019 questions about mental health.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text animation=&#8221;slideInLeft&#8221;]The campaign has also reached out to several campus sororities to survey students\u2019 knowledge of the center\u2019s services, use the data to offer information sessions and follow up by issuing a second survey to gauge the impact.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text animation=&#8221;slideInLeft&#8221;]Laves said the center was excited when the group of students offered to promote its services.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text animation=&#8221;slideInLeft&#8221;]\u201cAny additional help to get our message out to students is always welcomed,\u201d Laves wrote. \u201cWe felt very assured that these students could develop a social media campaign with greater impact \u2013 particularly more impact than anything us \u2018older\u2019 people would create.
