In response, they created the COVID-19 Student Emergency Fund, and raised nearly $150,000 from regional donors and community members for those in need.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text animation=&#8221;slideInLeft&#8221; animation_delay=&#8221;.2&#8243;]\u201cThe Student Emergency Fund\u2019s creation is truly a regional and campus collaboration designed to support the realities of student\u2019s lives,\u201d said Atley Smedley, spokesperson at NKU. \u201cAny student can apply to use the fund to cover education-related expenses, food and toiletries, transportation needs, and other costs so they can continue to support themselves and their families while pursuing their degrees at NKU.\u201d[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text animation=&#8221;slideInLeft&#8221; animation_delay=&#8221;.4&#8243;]Since last year, the program has distributed $129,710 to 539 students, and referred more than 400 to CARES Act funding.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; image=&#8221;14402&#8243; animation=&#8221;slideInRight&#8221; animation_delay=&#8221;.2&#8243;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text animation=&#8221;slideInLeft&#8221; animation_delay=&#8221;.6&#8243;]\u201cThis fund has made it possible for my fianc\u00e9 and me to keep our heads above water during these trying times.
