Here comes an overview of his recommendations, which will be considered and almost certainly changed by the General Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>Major education steps include additions beyond current year funding of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$5 million for preschool in disadvantaged areas<\/li>\n<li>$6.5 million for additional Work Ready and Better Kentucky Promise postsecondary scholarships<\/li>\n<li>$11 million for school textbooks and instruction materials<\/li>\n<li>$44 million for KCTCS and public universities<\/li>\n<li>$49 million to increase school teacher salaries<\/li>\n<li>$62 million to increase pay for other K-12 staff<\/li>\n<li>$50 million for broadband internet access<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To see a full comparison, check out our summaries for <a href=\"https:\/\/prichard-backup.com\/July\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/2021EarlyChildhood.Governor.Final_.pdf\">Early Childhood<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/prichard-backup.com\/July\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/2021.P12Budget.Governor.Final_.pdf\">P-12 Education<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/prichard-backup.com\/July\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/2021PostsecBudget.Governor.Final_.pdf\">Postsecondary Education<\/a>, which include proposed changes to the budget for the current 2021 fiscal year as well as other shifts in the Governor\u2019s recommendations for 2022 spending.<\/p>\n<p>These steps can strengthen Kentucky\u2019s education, and they deserve extra respect in the current period of crisis, pandemic, and economic disruption.<\/p>\n<p>Kentucky will need these investments and substantially more to build a robust future for our people and our commonwealth. The Prichard Committee\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/prichard-backup.com\/July\/bigboldask\/\">Big Bold Ask<\/a>\u00a0prioritizes seven categories for increased funding, from child care to postsecondary performance funding, and calls for Kentucky to move up to spending an additional $1 billion a year on learning. <a href=\"https:\/\/prichard-backup.com\/July\/governors-broadband-proposal-a-good-start-in-moving-kentucky-forward\/\">As we express our appreciation of the Governor\u2019s proposals, we also call for deeper work to fund education as Kentucky\u2019s path to a larger life.<\/a>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Governor Beshear introduced his proposed budget for the 2022 fiscal year last night, including some important steps up for Kentucky\u2019s educational investments.
