I learned about the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence as a high school sophomore. A flier said the committee was working for better public schools in Kentucky.  At the time, my math book was literally falling apart. So I raised my hand.

Three years later, I was among 50 students strategizing to convince legislators to ensure that millions of dollars from the Kentucky State Lottery would benefit college students. The Student Voice Team prevailed — our campaign resulted in $14 million reallocated to education.

On the Student Voice Team, we say that schools are incubators for our democracy. A thriving democracy requires healthy, resilient, and well-resourced schools.  In Kentucky, the Prichard Committee leads that effort every day.

Nearly seven years since that flier, I write as the Prichard Committee’s first student member and a monthly Prichard Committee contributor. I humbly ask for your financial support to ensure that this group’s essential work continues. Modest donations not only add up to meaningful resources, but also demonstrate that the committee inspires wide backing and trust.

Please contribute. If someone fresh out of college can forego Starbucks once a week to give, so can you! Our kids can’t wait.

Since 1983, the Prichard Committee has worked to study priority issues, inform the public and policy makers about best practices and engage citizens, business leaders, families, students, and other stakeholders in a shared mission to move Kentucky to the top tier of all states for education excellence and equity for all children, from their earliest years through postsecondary education.
